One thing that really bothers me is when people say that they have “OCD” because of really stupid things. You do not have OCD just because you feel the need to play a video game a collect everything. You do not have OCD just because you feel like washing your hands when they feel sticky.
Unless you literally wake up every day and just want to stay in bed so you don’t have to start your rituals, you don’t have OCD.
Unless you wash your hands in scalding hot water and scrub so hard your hands turn red, you don’t have OCD.
Unless you check the door 15 times before you leave, or check the stove, or flip lights on and off 23 times, you do not have OCD.
I don’t know why it’s so easy for people to throw this around. You’re not going to go out and tell everyone you’re pregnant just because you threw up once. You’re not going to go tell everyone you’ve got an STD just because of a yeast infection. This is such a frustrating thing for me to hear. There are people who are really suffering from this disorder. And it’s a real emotional pain.
I wish people would just think before they say things. It’s a difficult thing to have to deal with.
